How WIX Deceives Its Clients: My Story of False Promises and Lost Money

Today I want to share my personal experience — one that might save others from making the same mistake.
This is a story about WIX, the popular website builder that promotes itself as an easy, universal
But behind the glossy marketing lies a company that misleads customers and refuses to take responsibility when things go wrong.
How It All Started
I built a complete online store on WIX — a professional e-commerce project meant to operate in Kazakhstan.I purchased and connected a .kz domain, set up all the features, and even paid for a WIX Business plan to enable online payments and banking integrations.
Before committing fully, I reached out to WIX support and asked:
“Can I connect my store to a Kazakhstani bank system?”
Their answer was clear and confident — yes, everything is possible, no restrictions at all.For more than two weeks I worked on the site, paid for services, configured integrations, and trusted their promises.
The Truth Comes Out
Then came the reality check:According to Kazakhstani law, all websites with a .kz domain must be hosted on servers located within Kazakhstan.
But WIX does not have any servers in Kazakhstan — and therefore cannot host .kz websites legally.
In simple terms, this means that any .kz website built on WIX cannot operate in compliance with the law.All my efforts, time, and money were simply wasted.
Trying to Get a Refund
Once I understood the situation, I contacted WIX support again and requested a refund for my Business plan. After all, their service is incompatible with local regulations, and I had been misled from the beginning.
Their response?
“Refunds are not possible.”
No apology. No attempt to help. No accountability for their misinformation.
Why This Matters
WIX aggressively markets its services worldwide, without informing users about these critical legal limitations. They promise “global opportunities,” but in reality, many countries — including Kazakhstan — cannot fully use their platform.
This isn’t a simple misunderstanding. It’s a deliberate lack of transparency that leads to financial loss and frustration for honest business owners.

If something similar has happened to you — please share your story in the comments.Other entrepreneurs deserve to know what they’re getting into before investing their time and money in empty promises.
💬 Tell us how WIX (or another international platform) failed you.Your story could become part of a larger investigation into how these global website builders treat customers outside their “main markets.”
The Takeaway
WIX claims to be a platform “for everyone.”But in practice:
They don’t verify whether their services comply with local laws.
They don’t warn users about legal limitations.
And they refuse refunds, even when their product can’t function in your country.
⚠️ Be cautious. Before paying for any service like WIX, make sure it can legally operate where you do business.Don’t let marketing slogans cost you your hard-earned money.
